BLOOMFIELD, N.J.-  Senior Christine Verrelle recorded a game high 20 points, but the Dowling College women’s basketball lost at the pre-season 21^st ranked Bloomfield College, 74-55, this afternoon.  The Golden Lions begin their season at 0-1 as the Bears start at 1-0.
 
Verrelle went 8-13,  3 for 5 from three point range and added seven rebounds and two assists.. Nicole Caggiano added 12 points for the Golden Lions, with Jillian Gillman pitching in with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Tierra Scott netted a team-high 14 points for Bloomfield. Tianna Smith recorded 12 points with Morgan Taylor and Alexia’ Tucker putting in 11 points apiece.

The Bears shot 44.4% (28-63), which was better than Dowling’s 32.8% (19-58). Bloomfield forced 28 turnovers and committed just nine They converted those miscues to 28 points to the Golden Lions 6 points off turnovers. 

The home team also had a slight edge at the free throw line. BC was 11-22 while Dowling went 10-14.  The Golden Lions won the battle of the boards, 42-38.

The Golden Lions return to action Saturday, November 22^nd as they travel to Dominican College for the Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament.  Dowling will face Felician College at 5:30 PM.
