VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN SEMIFINALS 3-1

BRIDGEPORT, CONN.- The Dowling College volleyball team came up short in the East Coast Conference Semifinal game falling to LIU Post 3-1.  The Golden Lions are eliminated from tournament play and slide to 21-9 on the season.  The Pioneers improve to 19-12 on the season and advance to play the University of Bridgeport in the final round.
 
After falling behind early in the opening set the Golden Lions came back to tie the score at 8.  Play remained tight with neither side building a lead larger than three points, but the Pioneers came back taking the final five points, 25-22, for the 1-0 match lead.  LIU Post led throughout set two coming away with the 25-22 win to lead the match 2-0.  The Golden Lions came out strong in set three taking an early 10-4 lead.  But the Pioneers chipped away at the DC lead to tie the game at 14 and went on to lead 18-15.  Dowling answered back stringing together the final eight points to stay alive with the 25-21 set win.  Dowling took a commanding 20-13 lead in the fourth set, the Pioneers inched back in tying the score at 21 and came away with the 25-22 win.
 
The Golden Lions were led by junior Jessica Kalbfleisch with 15 kills and completed her 18th double double of the season with 15 digs.  Junior setter Kayla Dillman tossed up 29 assists with junior libero Kayla Morgan finishing with 16 digs.
 
Leading the Pioneers was Heather Adams with 19 kills hitting at a .333 clip.  Danielle Valenza and Analise Austin finished in double digits with 13 and 12 kills respectively.  Setter Lulu Centro recorded 35 assists with libero Rachel Ringor posting a match high 24 digs.
