DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.-
The Dowling College men’s soccer team traveled to Mercy College and came away with a 2-1 win this afternoon. The Golden Lions improve to 9-5-2 on the season, 6-3-1 in East Coast Conference play. The Mavericks fall to 3-13, 2-7 ECC.

put the Golden Lions ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 17th
minute of play. Freshman Philip Svensson
sent a cross into the box where Herrera got a head on it and put it past Mercy keeper for an early lead. The Mavericks out shot the Golden Lions 13 to 8 in the opening frame, but went into the break trailing 1-0.
Herrera tallied his second goal of the day as he worked the ball down the left side of the field and drilled a shot just inside the right post. Mercy cut the deficit in half when Haxhi Verjoni scored his first goal of the season in the 87th
minute of play. The Dowling defense held on down the stretch to secure the 2-1 win.
Mercy out shot the Golden Lions 24 to14 with a 9-3 corner kick advantage. Dowling’s goalkeeper Chris Friedl
finished with eight saves on the day with his counter part Luis Lizarzaburu finishing with five.
The Golden Lions wrap up their regular season schedule as they travel to the University of the District of Columbia Saturday, November 1st
