The Knights were first on the board with a goal in the sixth minute of play. Queens’ Courtney Locurcio blasted a free kick on the far side from 30 yards out to the top left corner of the net just out of reach of DC’s keeper Melissa Guglielmo
. The Golden Lions answered back in the 25th
minute when Christine Verrelle
knocked in a corner kick from Christina Cottone
to the lower right corner. Despite out shooting the Knights 7-2 in the half, the teams went into the break with the score knotted at one.
The second half started with most of the play being done in the middle of the field. In the 79th
minute, Cottone dished her second assist of the day with a through ball to freshman Kelly McQuail
found herself one on one with Queen’s keeper and ripped a shot to the right side of the net. The Dowling back line of Kristin Muir
, Nicole Nulty
, Kristin Breihof and Verrelle kept the Knights at bay to secure the 2-1.
The Golden Lions out shot the Knights 15-7 with both team at an even three corner kicks apiece. Dowling’s Guglielmo finished with three saves on the day with her counterpart Mersina Onesto finishing with five.
Dowling returns to Golden Lions Field for their final regular season game as they host Concordia College Wednesday, October 29th
