The Dowling College women’s soccer team finished in a 2-2 draw with LIU Post this afternoon. The Golden Lions move to 8-3-2 on the season, 5-1-1 in East Coast Conference play. The Pioneers now sit at 10-1-1 overall, 5-0-1 ECC.
The Pioneers were first on the board with a goal in the 27th minute of play. Katie LaManna crossed the ball into Susanne Vistnes who ripped a shot past Dowling keeper Melissa Guglielmo
. The Golden Lions answered three minutes later when a scramble in the box resulted in a goal by freshman Kelly McQuail
. LIU retook the lead later in the half when Vistnes moved past the Dowling defense and blasted a shot off the hands of Guglielmo for her second goal of the day sending the Pioneers into the break leading 2-1.
Eight minutes into the second frame, the Golden Lions again caught up the Pioneers with McQuail’s second goal of the afternoon. Sophomore Christina Cottone
sent a corner kick into the box where McQuail got her head on it putting it past LIU’s keeper Hreffie Agnarsdottir into the top right corner. Neither side was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of regulation and both sides headed to overtime.
Each side got one shot off in overtime but neither side was able to score and they finished at 2-2.
Dowling returns to Golden Lions Field this Saturday, October 18th
as they the University of Bridgeport. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
