SHIRLEY, N.Y.– Six different Golden Lions found the back of the net as the Dowling College women’s soccer team cruised to a 6-0 non-conference win over Chestnut Hill College. The Golden Lions improve to 8-2-1 on the season as the Griffins slide to 1-9-1.
The Golden Lions jumped on the board early with a goal in the 14
th minute. Sophomore
Christina Cottone sent in a corner kick that found the head of
Astasia Williams-Bertles who snuck it past Chestnut Hill’s goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, junior
Allie Merrill doubled the Dowling lead when she took a pass from senior
Nicole Nulty beating the CHC defender and blasted a shot to the left side of the net. Dowling extended their lead to 3-0 when senior
Christine Verrelle recorded her first goal of the season when she headed in a corner kick from
Amber Pindulic in the 39
th minute. The Golden Lions
Dowling continued the pressure in the second half and broke through in the 76
th minute when senior
Lindsey Thompson‘s shot was out of CHC keeper’s reach. Less than two minutes later Pindulic found the back of the net for a 5-0 Dowling advantage. The final goal of the night came in the final 30 seconds of play when sophomore
Samantha DiClemente found space and drilled a shot in the upper left corner bringing the game to its final 6-0 score.

Melissa Guglielmo recorded her eighth win of the season finishing with one save as
Mariah Valva recorded two.
The Golden Lions out shot the Griffins 28 to 5 and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Dowling hits the road and takes on Mercy College this Saturday, October 11
th at 12:00 PM.
