SHIRLEY, N.Y.- The Dowling College women’s soccer scored twice in the second half to come away with a 2-1 East Coast Conference win over Molloy College this afternoon at Golden Lions Field.  The Golden Lions improve to 7-2-1 on the season, 5-0 in ECC play.  Molloy falls to 1-7-1 overall, 1-3 ECC.

After both sides played to scoreless draw in the opening frame, the Golden Lions wasted no time getting on the board with a goal two minutes into the second half.  Sophomore Kim Spiciarich took the ball down the field and sent it through to Allie Merrill who found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.  Dowling doubled their lead in the 70th minute when Christina Cottone sent in a corner kick that Spiciarich managed to get a head on and put it past Molloy keeper Paige Salmon for a 2-0 lead.  The Lions broke up the shut out when Gianna Jennosa found the back of the net in the 84th minute, but the Golden Lions held on for the 2-1 win.

Dowling keeper Melissa Guglielmo finished the day with six saves with Molloy’s Salmon recording two.

Dowling return to Golden Lions Field Wednesday, October 8th as they host Chestnut Hill College.  Kick off is set for 4:00 PM.
