THOMPSON LEADS DOWLING TO FIVE STRAIGHT IN 5-1 VICTORY OVER NYIT

Box Score Old Westbury, N.Y.- Lindsey Thompson and Kim Spiciarich led Dowling’s offense to a 5-1 victory to push their streak to five wins against ECC foe the NYIT Bears (1-5-1; 0-2-1 ECC) on Wednesday, October 1 at President’s Stadium. 

Dowling College got to a strong offense start early on in the first half. The Golden Lions recorded three shots in the first ten minutes of action.  In the 15th minute Lindsey Thompson found the back of the net after the ball was deflected off the keeper to take the 1-0 lead. The bears took capitalized on a foul as NYIT scored off a free kick to tie the game 1-1. Thompson then scored her second goal of the afternoon in the 23rd minute. A pass by Kim Spiciarich found Thompson who beat the NYIT keeper on the far side to increase the score 2-0. As Dowling still had the ongoing possession, Thompson completed the hat trick as she shot the ball off the post to take the 3-1 advantage. The Golden Lions headed to their lockers with the 3-1 in the first half.

Dowling didn’t take their foot of the petal as they kept attacking the Bears defense. Thompson notched her ninth goal of the season off a feed from Spiciarich. Dowling took a commanding 4-1 lead with 20 minutes left in the game.  Dayna Galli added to the Golden Lion’s lead after another feed from Spiciarich.

Thompson would finish with four goals scored on six shots, as Spiciarich assisted on three of Dowling’s goals. Goalkeeper Melissa Guglielmo had four saves on the day. The Golden lions outshot NYIT 20-12.

Dowling continues ECC play at home as they face Molly College  on Saturday, October 4th at 12 p.m.
