PHILADEPHIA, PENN.-  The Golden Lions surrender two late goals to earn a 2-2 draw with Philadelphia University in non-conference action this afternoon at Ravenhill Field.  The Golden Lions move to 1-2-1 on the season as the Rams now sit at 2-0-1.
Senior forward Lindsey Thompson wasted no time giving the Golden Lions an early 1-0 lead in the second minute of the game tapping in a mishandled ball in the box.  The Rams put up a strong offensive attack outshooting Dowling 11-5 in the opening frame, but the visiting Golden Lions went into the break leading 1-0.
The second half saw much of the play in the midfield until the 73rd minute when freshman Kelly McQuail found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career.  ECC Rookie of the Week Amber Pindulic sent in the ball from the left wing and McQuail sent it in from the corner of the box into the left side of the net.  The Golden Lions took a 2-0 lead into the final minutes, but the Rams broke up the shut out when Carla Chmielewski’s shot over DC keeper Melissa Guglielmo into the back of the net.  Down a goal in the final minute of regulation, Philly U’s Patrice Maro knocked in a loose ball in the box to tie the game at two and send the teams into overtime.
Neither side got much going in the two overtime periods with Philly getting off the only two shots in the extra time ending the game in a 2-2 draw.
The Rams outshot the Golden Lions 20-9 with DC’s Guglielmo finishing with six saves to Philly’s Courtney Shaw’s four.
The Golden Lions return to action with their home and East Coast Conference opener Friday, September 19th as they host Daemen College.  Kick off is set for 4:00 PM.
