WOMEN’S SOCCER EDGED BY BENTLEY, 1-0

Box Score North Andover, MA- The Dowling College women’s soccer team dropped their second game of the season, 1-0, against Bentley University this afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field.  The Golden Lions move to 0-2 on the season as the Falcons improve to 2-0.
 
The Golden Lions started the game with a strong offensive front getting off three shots in the first five minutes of action. The Falcons were first to strike when Ana Tantum recorded the opening goal of the game in the 10th minute to take the 1-0 lead. Dowling continued to put pressure of the Flacon defense as they finished the half with nine shots, five of which were on goal. By the end of the half the Golden Lions trailed 1-0.

In the second half, Dowling had opportunities to score the equalizer when in the 52nd minute with back to back shots on goal, but Benley goalkeeper Deirdre Macrorle and the Falcon defense held tight keeping the Golden Lions off the board. In the 69th minute, Amber Pindulic just missed putting Dowing on the board as her sot hit the high post, followed up by sophomore Taylor Davide‘s shot just missing high of the net. Bentley held on as time ran out for the 1-0 win.

The Golden Lions out shot the Falcons 22-7 with a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Goalkeeper Melissa Guglielmo had five saves in the game while Deirdre Macrorie recorded 10.
 
Dowling will travel to face the University of New Haven Chargers on Wednesday, September 10th at 4:00 pm.
