WOMEN’S SOCCER SLATED FIFTH IN ECC PRESEASON POLL

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y.-  The Dowling College women’s soccer team has been picked fifth in the East Coast Conference Preseason Poll as voted on by conference coaches.  Junior forward Susanne Vistnes from LIU Post takes home the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year award  for the second straight year, while  Ashleigh Berg, a senior back from Bridgeport, was voted the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Last season, the Golden Lions finished 12-3-2 overall with a 5-3-1 ECC record.  Last year’s squad brings back 11 returning Golden Lions including leading scorer senior Lindsey Thompson who finished with 21 total points on nine goals and three assists.  Also returning in sophomore Christina Cottone who recorded six goals and two assists in her freshman year.  Anchoring the back line is senior Nicole Nulty back for her final year along with senior goalkeeper Melissa Guglielmo who led the ECC with an .839 save percentage and a .59 goals against average.

Head Coach Kerri McCabe and the Golden Lions open their 2014 season as they travel to take on Merrimack College Friday, September 5th at 7:00 PM.
