Central Islip, N.Y. – Perennial conference powers Dowling and LIU Post have tied for the top spot in the East Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll as voted on by the league’s coaches. Dowling teammates, senior attacker, Jackie Andersen  and Emma Ferreira take home the league’s top preseason honors with Andersen earning Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Ferreira taking home Preseason Defensive Player of the Year laurels.

Dowling received five of nine first place votes, while LIU Post received the other four as both schools finished with 76 points in the poll. Dowling is coming off a season in which they compiled a 14-5 record. The Golden Lions also won the first-ever ECC Women’s Lacrosse Championship tournament by snapping LIU Post’s 40 game winning streak in the final. The victory gave Dowling their third ECC title in the past four seasons.

Andersen, a three-time All-Conference First Team selection, led the ECC with 65 goals a season ago. She also placed second in the conference with 49 assists and 114 points. Her goal, assist, and point totals were all ranked in the top-10 in Division II and she finished second in the nation with 6.33 points per game. Andersen’s outstanding season also earned her a spot on the IWLCA All-America First Team.

Ferreira was just as impressive on the back line for Dowling. She ranked third in the ECC by causing 28 turnovers and also finished in the top-10 with 50 draw controls and 35 ground balls.
