WEST HAVEN, CONN.- Senior
Christine Verrelle finishd with a double double, but the Dowling College women’s basketball team fell to the University of New Haven 71-42 this evening at Charger Gymnasium. The Golden Lions slide to 0-5 on the season as the Chargers improve to 6-1.
Verrelle led the Golden Lions with 16 points on the night that she paired with ten rebounds for her first double double of the season. Junior Krtina Surlan pitched in with eight points with senior
Kristen McMahon finishing with a team high 12 boards.
New Haven was paced by Aquillin Hayes with a game high 21 points joined with nine rebounds. Bria Moore finished in double figures with 17 points.
The Chargers were first on the board and led throughout the night holding the Golden Lions to shooting just 25.8% from the field, 16 of 62. The home team finished shooting 33.3% from the floor with a 53-48 rebounding advantage. UNH came away with 30 points in the paint and turned 21 Dowling turnovers into 25 points sailing away with the 71-42 win.
The Golden Lions return to Dowling Gymnasium Saturday, December 6
th as they open East Coast Conference play. Tip off is set for 12:00 PM.
