The Dowling College women’s basketball team fell twice over the weekend at the Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament hosted by Dominican College. The Golden Lions (0-4) dropped their contest with Felician College 70-57 before coming up short 62-59 to Dominican College.
Dowling led through most of the opening frame, but timely free throws and a jump shot from Eliana Scanlon gave the Golden Falcons a slight 25-23 lead going into the break. A 9-0 Felician run breaking a 39-39 tie midway through the half put the Golden Falcons ahead where they would stay from the remainder of the game a cruise to a 70-57 win.
Senior Nicole Caggiano
led the Golden Lions with 21 points adding four assists. Senior Christine Verrelle
finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Felician was led by Scanion with 22 points and five assists. Ashley Morris pitched in with 20 points and six rebounds.
The Golden Lions came back with a tightly played game against the Chargers that saw ten lead changes and nine tied scores. Dowling shot 30% as a team form the field as Dominican finished at 40.4%. The Chargers held a slight 45-42 edge off the glass and a 26-14 advantage in the paint. The Golden Lions used 17 Dominican turnovers and turned them into 12 points.
Three Golden Lions finished in double figures with Verrelle recording a team high 17 points. Senior Kristen McMahon
and Caggiano came in with 16 and 13 points respectively. Sophomore Jillian Gilman posted a game high 17 rebounds.
Dowling takes to their home court as they host Bentley College Saturday, November 29th
. Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.
