SPARKILL, N.Y.- The Dowling College women’s basketball team dropped and East Coast Conference contest 76-55 to St. Thomas Aquinas College this afternoon at Aquinas Hall. The Golden Lions fall to 4-14 on the season, 4-8 in ECC play. The Spartans improve to 9-12 overall, 5-7 ECC.
Senior
Christine Verrelle went 6-13 from the field, 6-7 from the free throw line for a game high 18 points. Junior
Krstina Surlan added 13 points and for assists for the Golden Lions, with
Kamille Ejerta also finishing with 13 points and four rebounds..
Sabrina Eggink and Samantha Lane both came off the bench and netted a team-high 14 points for STAC. Jenna Erickson finished with 11 points and eight assists.
The Spartans shot 44.6% (29-65), which was better than Dowling’s 36.1% (22-61). STAC forced 19 turnovers and converted those miscues to 17 points to the Golden Lions 11 points off 15 turnovers.
The home team also had a slight edge at the free throw line. STAC was 13-22 while Dowling went 7-11. The Spartans won the battle of the boards, 44-37.
The Golden Lions return to action Wednesday, February 4
th as they travel to NIYT. Game time is set for 5:00 PM.
