OAKDALE, N.Y.- Senior
Christine Verrelle poured in a season high 25 points as the Dowling College women’s basketball team topped Mercy College 64-57 this evening at Dowling Gymnasium. The Golden Lions improve to 4-13 on the season, 4-7 in East Coast Conference play. The Mavericks slide to 7-11 overall, 1-10 ECC.
Verrelle completed the double double with ten assists while adding seven rebounds and three steals. Junior
Kamille Ejerta came away with 15 points and four steals with junior
Jessica Kalbfleisch rounding out the top scorers with a double double of 10 points and 11 boards.
The Mavericks were led by Tanayzha Augustine with a 22 point performance paired with 11 rebounds. Monet Keane-Dawes finished with 15 points nine boards and Brandone Roberts added eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Golden Lions finished shooting 40% as a team from the field, 42.9% from three-point range while holding Mercy to just 30% from the floor. Mercy held a 59 -38 advantage off the glass to manage 26 second chance points, but the Golden Lions held on with key free throws from Surlan and Verrelle for the 64057 win.
