WASHINGTON, D.C.- The University of the District of Columbia never allowed the Dowling College women’s basketball team to establish any kind of rhythm this afternoon as they defeated the Golden Lions 86-48 at the UDC Sports Complex.
Dowling slides to 2-11 on the season and 2-5 in East Coast Conference play. The Firebirds improve to 13-3 overall, 6-2 ECC.
The Firebirds held the visitors to just 20-of-56 shooting, while forcing 25 turnovers. Senior
Christine Verrelle paced the Golden Lions with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Junior
Krstina Surlan pitched in with 11 points and four boards.
UDC never trailed and their largest lead was 41 points with 2:37 to play. The FIrebirds had three players score in double figures with Diamonique Carr coming off the bench with a game high 20 points. Taj Baldwin-Kollore chipped in 19 and Denikka Brent had 12 points with three assists.
The Golden Lions were held to just 19% from beyond the arc with the Firebirds knocking down 40.9% from three point range. UDC also outscored the Golden Lions 38 to 14 in the paint.
The Golden Lions return to Dowling Gymnasium Tuesday, January 20
th as they host the University of Bridgeport. Tip off is set for 5:00 PM.
