Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach
Tim Boyle enters his 14th
year as head coach of the men’s lacrosse team. In his inaugural season, he guided the Golden Lions to a 7-6 overall record. Boyle has compiled overall record of 121-54 and four NCAA tournament appearances.
Last year the Golden Lions finished with a 12-5 overall record with a 6-1 East Coast Conference mark. Dowling advanced to the first ever ECC Final game earning their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament. Four Golden Lions were named to the USILA All-Region Team with senior Derek Muzio being named USILA Academic All-American.
In 2006, the program earned a No. 2 National ranking with a 12-2 record and earning a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championship game for the first time in program history. For his success Coach Boyle earned Conference coach of the year as well as United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) National Coach of the Year.
In 2010, the Golden Lions found themselves back in the NCAA National Semifinal game where they faced the top seeded Pioneers of C.W. Post. Coming up just one goal short, Dowling wrapped up another successful season at 12-2. Earning their second NCAA postseason selection Boyle was named the 2010 Division II Coach of the year by the USILA.
In 2012, the Golden Lions an 11-2 regular season finish, the Golden Lions earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championships where they faced the top seeded Mercyhurst Lakers in the semifinals. A 7-6 overtime win sent Dowling to the Championship game where they defeated the Saints for a program high 13 wins in a single season. The Golden Lions finished nationally ranked in the Top 10 in Scoring Offense, Scoring Defense, Face off Win Percentage, Scoring Margin, Win Percentage, Points per Game, and Ground Ball per Game. Junior midfielder Louis Riley led the nation in Ground Balls per Game.
During his tenure, Boyle has coached 38 All American Selections, six of which went on to play professionally.
Prior to taking over as head coach, Boyle served as the Golden Lions assistant from 1995-2000. His responsibilities included advance scouting, recruiting and working with the midfielders. Boyle has also served as an assistant coach for the Irish Lacrosse Team that competed in the 2002 World Championships in Perth, Australia. Prior to coaching he was a four-year starter and team captain at Oneonta State. He graduated in 1990 earning a Bachelor’s Degree in both US History and European History and went on to get his Master’s Degree from Dowling.
Boyle currently serves on the NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Committee and served for 10 years on the National Polling and All-American Committees for the USILA (United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association). In addition, Tim assists at numerous lacrosse camps and helps promote the sport by working with area youngsters.
The Wantagh, NY native currently resides in Patchogue, NY with his wife Jeanne Marie.
