Assistant Coach
Alicia Smith is entering her second year as an assistant coach with the Golden Lions.
Smith is not new to collegic coaching. Before moving back to Long Island she coached at Northwestern University and Virginia Tech.
Smith played for Hofstra Univerisity during her collegiate carreer.
Smith was named a second-team All-American as a senior in 2000, matching the highest honor for anyone in the history of the program, and was a four-time all-conference and all-region selection. She finished her career as one of the top hitters and pitchers in school history, still holding the school record for hits in a career with 271, while ranking third in pitching victories with 71.
During her senior year, Smith helped the Pride to a 2-1 win over nationally ranked Louisiana-Lafayette in the NCAA Tournament by driving in both runs and earning the victory in the pitching circle, a win which helped Hofstra set a new school record at the time for wins in a season with 42. After graduation, she went on to play professionally in Italy and for the New York Juggernaut of National Pro Fastpitch.
Alicia was selected to the Hofstra hall of fame, and has her number retired.
