OAKDALE, N.Y.- Dowling College Athletics and Keep Islip Clean partnered up
this Friday morning to clean up the community that Dowling College calls home.  This year two additional East Coast Conference schools "Teamed Up to Clean Up" as Molloy College and NYIT both hosted clean up events in their respective areas.

"Over the past eight years, we have developed a great partnership with the Keep Islip Clean organization," Vice President for Athletics Melody Cope stated.  "This year we are excited to join forces with other members of the East Coast Conference, to extend our clean up efforts throughout Long Island."

Over 300 Dowling College student-athletes, coaches, and staff members spread out across the area around the Oakdale/Rudolph Campus collecting trash, cleaning up parks and parking lots, and removing litter from roadways.  Golden Lions could be found lending a hand and picking up debris at locations such as the Central Islip, Oakdale, and Ronkonkoma Train Stations, the Westbrook Sports Complex as well as local shopping centers and nearby neighborhoods.  Collectively, student-athletes picked up over 130 bags of trash on the day.

For the second straight year, the men's lacrosse team spent their time doing extensive landscaping at the Town of Islip Garden and Compost Facility.

"Keep Islip Clean is a great event to be a part of.  It's a great opportunity as student-athletes to get out and help the community we all call home," said Karyim Balthazar of the Men's Soccer team.

"This event is another example of the important place our schools and conference hold in their neighborhoods," noted East Coast Conference Commissioner Dr. Robert Dranoff.  "Our student-athletes and athletic departments are role models, I believe, in their efforts to help others.  We are all proud of the work they do and the impact they make in building relationships and partnerships with their communities."

Keep Islip Clean (KIC) is a not-for-profit affiliate of the nationwide organization Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB), which has 400 other affiliates like KIC scattered across the country.
