BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Dowling College men’s soccer team fell 4-1 to LIU Post in the East Coast Conference Semifinal game this afternoon. The Golden Lions fall to 10-6-2 on the season as the Pioneers advance to the finals with a 14-3-1 record.
The Golden Lions were first on the board with a goal in the 39
th minute. A deflected ball in the box found the foot of
Kevin Diaz who’s shot to the upper half of the goal was out of the reach of LIU’s keeper Jesper Malmstrom. The Pioneers brought the ball back down field where Jason Lampkin had a shot on net, but Dowling’s keeper
Chris Friedl made the save to send the Golden Lions into the break leading 1-0.
The Pioneers quickly evened the score four minutes into the second frame with Per Forgaard’s first goal of the day. A corner kick was sent in from Johannes Forgaard and was headed by Lampkin before Forgaard was able to tap it in. Forgaard. J. then gave the Pioneers the lead when he sent in a rebounded shot in the 69
th minute. The Pioneers extended their lead with two more goals late in the half by Forgaard P. and Maxime Devillaz to come away with the 4-1 win.
LIU out shot the Golden Lions 23-8 with a 15-3 advantage in corner kicks. Dowling’s Friedl finished the day with nine saves with Malmstrom finishing with one.
