The Dowling College men’s soccer team came away with a 2-1 win over the University of Bridgeport this afternoon at Golden Lions Field. The Golden Lions improve to 7-5-1 on the season, 4-2 in East Coast Conference play. The Purple Knights fall to 4-7 overall, 3-4 ECC.
The Golden Lions were first on the board with a goal midway through the opening frame. Freshman Phillip Svensson took the ball down field beating UB’s keeper in the near side and sent a cross into Mike Gronenthal
who’s header went into the upper right corner.
The Purple Knights evened the score in the 33rd
minute Simon Haakansson took a deflection off a Dowling defender and ripped a shot past DC’s keeper Chris Friedl
sending the teams into the break tied at one.
The Golden Lions got their game winner in the six minutes into the second half when Raffaele Sorbara
found Chris Posillico
who blasted a shot past Agustin Prados giving the Golden Lions the 2-1 win.
The Golden Lions out shot the Purple Knights 16 to 11 with both teams even with ten corner kicks apiece.
Dowling’s Friedl finished with four saves on the day with Prados recording six.
The Golden Lions return to Golden Lions Field Wednesday, October 22nd
as they host Adelphi University. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
