MEN’S SOCCER TAKES DOWN STAC 2-1

SPARKILL, N.Y.-  The Dowling College men’s soccer team traveled to St. Thomas Aquinas College and came away with a 2-1 win this afternoon.  The Golden Lions improve to 6-2-1 on the season with a 3-0 East Coast Conference record.  The Spartans slide to 2-3-2 overall, 0-3 ECC.
 
After the Golden Lions took a 1-0 lead using Sean Collins‘ first goal of the season from Raffaele Sorbara in the 28th minute, the Spartans tied it up late in the second half.  Alejand Coyt-Orozco sent in a free kick and found Pierfranc Simonetti in the 73rd minute.  In the final minutes of regulation, Dowling keeper Chris Friedl sent a punt down field where Andrae Campbell put in the game winner in the 83rd minute.
 
The Golden Lions narrowly outshot the Spartans 12-11 with 9-2 corner kick advantage.  STAC’s keeper Nicholas Palumbo finished with seven saves on the day.
 
Dowling resumes ECC action Wednesday, October 1st as the hit the road to face the New York Institute of Technology Bears.  Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
