DOWLING WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT, 1-0 OVER BLOOMFIELD

Box Score Shirley, N.Y. – The Dowling College men’s soccer team recorded its third straight shutout, defeating Bloomfield (2-4) on Wednesday, Sept.24 by the score of 1-0 at Golden Lions Field.

Dowling took 10 shots in the opening half forcing the Bears to make five saves to keep the match scoreless at the break.

In the second half, Bloomfield had an opportunity to take the lead with an open net, but Zac Ogoo slid in to knock the ball away for the save. After another back and forth battle for possession the Golden Lions finally broke through.  Mike Gronenthal tipped in the opening goal off a corner from Philp Sevensson to take the 1-0. Gronenthal leads the team in goals with six. In the last 10 minutes of the game the Bears fired five shots but the Dowling defense was able to clear the ball away and come away with the 1-0 victory.

Goalkeeper Chris Friedl made three saves as he recorded his third shutout of the season and his sixth shutout of his career.  Dowling outshot the bears 19-13 and had the advantage in corners 6-2.

Dowling will continue conference play as they will travel to Sparkill, NY on Saturday Sept. 27 to take on the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans at 2:30 pm.
