Shirley, N.Y. – The Golden Lions won their second consecutive game this afternoon behind a strong performance from junior forward
Sean Collins. Collins’s three goals led Dowling to a 3-1 victory over the NYIT Bears to improve the Golden Lions record to 2-4 (2-0 ECC). The Bears see their record fall to 2-4-1 (0-2 ECC).
NYIT seemed to have control over the game during the opening minutes and Dowling was struggling to keep possession of the ball. This changed in the 17
th minute when the Bears were trying to play the ball up from their defense but Collins used his aggressive play to give Dowling the first goal of the contest. The Golden Lion forward stole the ball from a NYIT defender and beat the keeper on a one on one chance. Dowling continued to push and struck again one minute later. The attack started from forward
Nyder Chardonette who had his shot saved by NYIT keeper Johnathon Rico but Collins was there to score on the rebound. Dowling took their 2-0 lead into halftime.
Collins came out hungry for another goal in the second half and he found it in the 48
th minute. He caught NYIT playing the ball slowly and stole the ball away from the feet of the keeper and passed it into the open net. The Bears answered back in the 50
th minute when Ben Wilson ripped his free kick from 25 yards out into the back of the Dowling goal to cut the lead to 3-1. Dowling’s freshman keeper
Scott Flores made 3 saves including one in the 73
rd minute to cement the Dowling victory.
The Golden Lions will aim to keep their winning streak alive when they play at Molloy College on Saturday September 26
