TWO GOLDEN LIONS EARN ECC WEEKLY AWARDS

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y.-  Melissa Guglielmo of the women’s soccer team and  Mike Gronenthal of the men’s soccer team picked up East Coast Conference Weekly Awards for their efforts on the field last week.  Guglielmo was named Defensive Player of the Week with Gronenthal earning Offensive Player of the Week honors.
 
Gugliemo was unbeaten last week between the pipes, posting a 2-0-1 week with a .818 save percentage. In a non-conference draw against Philadelphia University, the senior recorded six saves. She went on to post back-to-back shutouts against ECC foes, Daemen College and Roberts Wesleyan College, later in the week.
 
Junior forward Mike Gronenthal tallied four goals on six shots over three games for the Golden Lions last week. Gronenthal scored two goals in their 4-3 victory against Georgian Court on Wednesday night. On Friday night he netted two additional goals, leading Dowling to a 3-0 victory over Daemen College
 
Lindsey Thompson, Women’s Soccer (Sr, F, Centereach, N.Y.)
Thompson led the Golden Lions in a 2-0-1 week recording two goals for four points. Her first goal of the week came in the 2-2 non-conference draw with Philadelphia University. The Senior scored again in the 2-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan.
 
Scott Litts, Men’s Cross Country (Sr, Ronkonkoma, N.Y.)
Litts led the Golden Lions at the Paddy Doyle/Iona Meet of Champions this weekend with a time of 27:34. The Senior finished 78th out of the 203 run­ners participating in the race.

Elizabeth Gorman, Volleyball (Sr, MB, Lindenhurst, N.Y.)
Gorman guided the Golden Lions offense to a 3-1 week dishing 99 assists averaging 9.90 assists per set. She led the team to a .221 hitting percentage while add­ing 26 digs, 2.60 digs per set and six total blocks.
 
Jessica Kalbfleisch, Volleyball (Jr, OH, Ridge, N.Y.)
Kalbfleisch led the Golden Lions to a 2-1 week totaling 34 with a .212 hitting percentage averaging 3.40 kills per set. The junior finished with 28 digs. 2.2 digs pre­set with four total blocks and two services aces. She recorded two double doubles in ECC match ups with 16 kills and 12 digs in the 3-0 win over Daemen College followed by 13 kills and 11 digs in the 3-1 over Roberts Wesleyan College.
