SHIRLEY, N.Y.- The Dowling College men’s soccer team blanked Roberts Wesleyan College with a 1-0 East Coast Conference win this afternoon at Golden Lions Field.  The Golden Lions improve to 4-2-1 on the season, 2-0 in ECC action.  With their first loss of the 2014 season, the Red Hawks move to 4-1-2 overall, 1-1 ECC.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Golden Lions broke through with a goal in the 59th minute.  Freshman Philip Svensson sent in a corner kick that found the Keith Vigorito who on the far post and headed in past RWC’s keeper Michael Scavone.  The Red Hawks nearly tied it up in the 75th minute when Michael McGinnis’ shot bounced around in the box, but the Golden Lions back line of Bobby Cranor, Zacchious Ogoo, Eric Rosales and Raffaele Sorbara were there to keep the ball out of the net and clear it down field.  Minutes later, the Golden Lions had back to back shots on goal by Svensson and Kevin Diaz, but RWC’s Scavone was there to pick up the saves.  The Red Hawks pushed the ball down field for a corner kick in the final seconds, but the Dowling defense held strong as time expired for the 1-0 win.
