WOMEN’S SOCCER OPENS ECC PLAY WITH 2-0 WIN OVER DAEMEN
Box Score SHIRLEY, N.Y.- The Dowling College women’s soccer team came away with a 2-0 win over Daemen College to open East Coast Conference play this afternoon at Golden Lions Field. The Golden Lions improve to 2-2-1, 1-0 ECC on the season as the Wildcats drop to 2-4, 0-1 ECC.
The Golden Lions were first on the board with a goal in the 10
th minute. Junior midfielder
Allie Merrill sent a cross into the box from the near side and found sophomore midfielder
Kayla Reyes who timed it past the Daemen keeper. The Golden Lions tacked on another one just before the final minute of the first frame after freshman
Kristin Muir lobbed a pass to senior
Dayna Galli who finished with a shot over Daemen’s Kathryn Haessner’s head to send the Golden Lions into the break leading 2-0.
Dowling continued to put on the pressure in the second half and in the 55
th minute
Kristin Muir got off two shots off a scramble in the box but neither found the back of the net. Merrill’s attempt in the in the 87
th minute was saved by Haessner bringing the game to it’s final 2-0.
The Golden Lions outshot the Wildcats 19-3 with a 7-2 corner kick advantage. Dowling’s
Melissa Guglielmo finished with one save with her counterpart Haessner recording six.
Dowling returns to action as they host Roberts Wesleyan College Sunday, September 21
st at 12:00 PM.
