MEN’S SOCCER SHUTS OUT DAEMEN 3-0 TO OPEN ECC SCHEDULE
Box Score SHIRLEY, N.Y.- The Dowling College men’s soccer team opened up their 2014 East Coast Conference schedule with a 3-0 win over Daemen College this evening at Golden Lions Field. The Golden Lions now sit at 3-2-1 on the season, 1-0 in ECC Play. The Wildcats drop to 2-3-0 overall, 0-1 ECC.
The Golden Lions jumped to an early lead in the 10
th minute after
Sean Collins one timed a cross into the box from
Philip Svensson for his first goal of the season. Later in the half, junior
Mike Gronenthal netted his fourth goal of the season when he knocked in a deflection of the Daemen keeper to give the Golden Lions a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Later in the second half, Gronenthal tallied his second goal on the night after he intercepted a pass in the midfield and blasted a shot to upper right corner of the net brining the game to it’s final 3-0 score.
The Golden Lions outshot the Wildcats 12-3 with a 7-3 corner kick advantage.
The Golden Lions return to Golden Lions Field Sunday, September 21
st as they host Roberts Wesleyan College at 3:00 PM.
