Box Score SHIRLEY, N.Y.-  The Dowling College men’s soccer team play Holy Family University to a 0-0 draw this evening at Golden Lions Field.  The tie puts both teams at 1-1-1 on the season.

The Golden Lions controlled the ball through much of the first half outshooting the Tigers 14-1.  Holy Family’s only scoring opportunity came in the 15th minute of play when Aiah Mbriwa snuck through the Dowling defense to find himself one on one with goalkeeper Chris Friedl.  Friedl, off his line, came up with a sliding save keeping the Tigers off the board.  Dowling’s Jose Herrera nearly put the Golden Lions on the board in the 26th minute, but his shot missed just over the crossbar and both sides went into the break scoreless.

Neither team could break through in the second half sending the game into overtime.  In the final minute of the first overtime period, Dowling’s Sean Collins struck the ball toward the upper right corner of the net, but Holy Family’s keeper Richard Ongaro just got a hand on it for the save.  Neither team could find the back of the net in the second overtime ending the game in a 0-0 draw.

Friedl finished the night with three saves and his Ongaro recorded seven.

The Golden Lions return to Golden Lions Field Sunday, September 14th as they host Wilmington University at 1:00 PM.
