Box Score SHIRLEY, N.Y.-  The Dowling College men’s soccer team was edged out Concordia College in their home opener, 1-0,  this afternoon at Golden Lions Field.  The Golden Lions move to 1-1 on the season as the Clippers improve to 2-0.
The Clippers took a lead in the 15th minute when Matteo Fabbri received a cross from the near corner from David Robertson and blasted into the bottom right corner of the net.  Concordia outshot the Golden Lions 4-1 in the first 45 minutes of play and went into the break leading 1-0.
In the second half, the Golden Lions posed more of an offensive threat keeping possession on the Concordia side most of the half.   Dowling had their first scoring opportunity with 23:45 left on the clock when a cross came into Jose Herrera who got a shot off to the lower left corner, but Concordia’s goalkeeper Ruel Gordon made a diving save keeping the ball out of the net.  Seconds later Herrera again had an opportunity to put the Golden Lions on the board, but his shot went just right of the net.  The Golden Lions continued to put pressure on the Clipper defense getting off 11 shots in the half, but Concordia’s defense held on for the 1-0 win.
Concordia’s Gordon finished with four saves on the day with Dowling’s Chris Friedl recording one.
The Golden Lions get back to Golden Lions Field and host Holy Family University Wednesday, September 10th at 7:00 PM.
