OAKDALE, N.Y.- Senior
Darien Davis poured in a game high 36 points boosting the Dowling College men’s basketball team to an 82-64 win over the New York Institute of Technology this evening at Dowling Gymnasium. The Golden Lions improve to 4-6 on the season, 3-1 in East Coast Conference action. The Bears drop to 3-7 overall, 0-2 ECC.
Adding to his 36 points, Davis added six assists, five rebounds and two steals. Junior
Evan Maxwell and freshman
Tristan Brown both finished with nine points with Maxwell grabbing 10 boards and Brown dishing six assists.
NYIT’s Jon Feiler finished with a double double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Khalif Chaplin knocked down 13 points with Fred Rivers coming off the bench to ad 10 points.
After taking a 10 point lead into the break, 34-24, the Golden Lions traded baskets with the Bears in the opening minutes of the second frame. A layup from NYIT’s Feiler at the 17:25 mark moved the Bears to within six 37-31, but the Golden Lions went on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes of play to go ahead 48-33. Davis sparked a 14-4 stretch with back-to-back layups to give Dowling a 62-40 advantage with 9:35 on the clock. Minutes later Davis and
Greg Civiletti dropped in three-pointers putting DC up by their largest margin of the night, 72-46, putting the game out of reach and coming away with the 82-64 win.
The Golden Lions finished shooting 46.2% from the field knocking down 30 of 65 while holding NYIT to just 36.9%.
The Golden Lions return to Dowling Gymnasium Saturday, December 20
th as they host Adelphi University in a non-conference matchup. Tip off is set for 1:00 PM.
