DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.- The Dowling College men’s basketball team used balanced scoring to pick up a 92-70 road win over Mercy College this evening. The Golden Lions improve to 3-5 on the season, 2-0 in East Coast Conference action. The Mavericks fall to 3-2, 0-2 ECC.
Dowling saw four Golden Lions finish in double figures led by senior
Darien Davis with a game high 31 points. Junior
Evan Maxwell recorded a double double of 22 points and 13 rebounds with senior
Donte Adams pitching in with 18 points and four assists. Freshman
Tristan Brown rounded out the top scorers with 10 points paired with five assists.
The Mavericks were led by Gerald McClease with 20 points and 12 boards. Lazaro Martinez added 19 points with Tyseem Lyles finishing with 14 points and three assists.
The Golden Lions took an eight point lead, 46-38, into the second half and stretched their advantage into double figures with a triple from Adams at the 17:18 mark. An 8-0 run by the Mavericks over a three minute stretch brought the home team to within five, 66-61, with just over 11 minutes left to play. The Golden Lions closed strong dropping in 17 of the final 19 points cruising to a 92-70 win.
Dowling held the Mavericks to shooting just 36% from the field while posting a 58.3% mark knocking down 35 of 60 from the field.
The Golden Lions return to Dowling Gymnasium Saturday, December 13
th as they host Saint Thomas Aquinas College. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
