Do your part as Dowling Athletics begins to add a new color to their navy and gold: Green!
As part of our "Go Green" initiative, Dowling Athletics has begun to concentrate their efforts on a program that will not only benefit the environment, but also an important charity. During the Go Green campaign, all proceeds generated from bottles and cans turned in during the year will go directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. With these contributions, Dowling Athletics will look to pass their record-breaking number of $17,163.26, the most raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by any single DII institution in the history of the NCAA.
Look for the green barrels on both campuses and pitch in by disposing of your cans and plastic bottles!
In addition, the Golden Lions are making greater use of their website at www.dowlingathletics.com by posting electronic versions of various forms and surveys that were previously only available in hard copy form. Also, by utilizing in-house printing services, all media guides and promotional materials can be printed on an as-needed basis while using recycled material.
Tony Leteri of USA Environmental has helped Dowling in the process of creating the program and will provide services throughout the year that will pick up recyclable material generated by Dowling.
"I am honored that our company is part of Dowling Athletics’ project to protect our environement, conserve our natural resources and, at the same time, raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It’s a win for our environment, a win for Dowling students, and a win for charity." said Leteri.
Rick Cole, Jr., Vice President of Athletics and Institutional Advancement, sees this as one more opportunity for Dowling Athletics to help outside of its classrooms and athletics facilities. "Every year we participate in programs that benefit the local community and beyond such as our Keep Islip Clean initiative and Wishmakers program. I see this as one of our largest initiatives created to help the environment."
