SHIRLEY, N.Y.-  The Dowling College field hockey team was edged out 2-1 by St. Anselm College this afternoon at Golden Lions Field.  The Golden Lions fall to 3-13 on the season and the Hawks improve to 7-6.
 
After a scoreless first half, the Golden Lions were first on the board with a goal in the 55th minute.  With the ball in St. Anselm territory, senior Jennifer Edward‘s initial shot was blocked, but Melissa Fuerst got the ball back to Edward who found the back of the cage for the 1-0 lead.  The Hawks wasted no time evening the score when Emma Kincaid tapped in a deflection..  Less than a minute later, the Hawks get their game winner from Rose Mooney with a long shot from the top of the circle fnd came away with the 2-1 win. 
 
The Hawks out shot the Golden Lions 21-12 with a slight 11-9 advantage in penalty corners.  Dowling goalkeeper Ariana Ovadia finished with six saves on the day with St. Anselm’s Katherine sears recording four.
 
The Golden Lions wrap up their season as they face Bellarmine University Sunday, November 9th. The game is to be played at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
