DOBBS FERRY, N.Y.-  The Dowling College field hockey team traveled to Mercy College this afternoon and came away with a 4-3 win.  The Golden Lions improve to 3-12 on the season as the Mavericks fall to 1-15.

The Golden Lions jumped ahead early with a goal in the third minute of play.   Off a penalty corner, Sarah Shams-Kollar sent a pass into Zoe Norton who’s shot from just inside the circle found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.  Mercy went on to out shoot the Golden Lions 9-2 in the half, however, Dowling held them off to go into the break with a one goal advantage.

The Mavericks took their only lead of the day early in the second half.  Back to back goals by Vanessa Soler and Jaclyn Ballin put Mercy ahead 2-1 seven minutes onto the half.  The Golden Lions then when on to score three unanswered goals in two minutes starting with Amanda DeGennaro tying the game at two with her goal off a penalty corner.  Melissa Fuerst then took the ball down field and found Summer Carson who tallied her first colligate goal.  Carson quickly got another shot off, but Mercy’s keeper Olivia Kelly managed to keep it out of the net for Justine DuLuca to tap in the deflection for a 4-2 Dowling lead.  The Mavericks inched within one when Randi Zorn knocked in a deflection in the 67th minute, but the Golden Lions held on for the 4-3 win.

Mercy out shot the Golden Lions 21-15 with a 16-5 penalty corner advantage.  Dowling’s Ariana Ovadia recorded seven saves on the day with Kelly finishing with four.
