NO. 3 STONEHILL TOO MUCH FOR GOLDEN LIONS

Box Score EASTON, MASS.-  The No. 3 ranked Stonehill College field hockey team scored three first-half goals on its way to a 7-0 victory over Dowling College (1-10) on Sunday afternoon at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field.

Sophomore Erika Kelly scored the game’s first goal in the 24th minute for the Skyhawks (16-0) on a low shot to left corner.  Back to back scores by Laauren Giordano in the 26th and 28th minutes sent Stonehill into the break leading 3-0.

The Skyhawks added to their lead in the 43rd minute with a goal from Emily Sideris and minutes later (45:48) Kelly Gouveia’s unassisted goal off a turnover in the front of the cage pushed the score to 5-0.  Later in the game, Stonehill’s Elizabeth Thornton tallied an unassisted goal followed by Giordano’s third goal of the game to bring the game to its final 7-0 score.

Dowling’s best scoring opportunity came in the second half when Kelly Di Fede and Jenna Stevenson sent in back to back shots, but Stonehil’s keeper Dana Dhami was there to make both saves.

Stonehill led in shots, 47-3, while holding an 18-2 advantage in penalty corners.  Dowling’s keeper Ariana Ovadia finished the day with 24 saves.
 
The Golden Lions return home for their final game at Golden Lions Field Sunday, November 3rd as they take on Lindenwood at 12:00 PM.
