SHIRLEY, N.Y.- The Dowling College field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Stonehill College this afternoon at Golden Lions Field. The Golden Lions fall to 2-12 on the season as the Skyhawks improve to 10-2.
The Skyhawks jumped on the board early with a goal on the sixth minute of play. Emily Sideris and Lauren Giordano worked a 2 on 1 situation with the Dowling defense with Sideris sending a pass over to Giordano who tapped it in for a 1-0 lead. Just about a minute later, the Golden Lions had their best socring opportunity of the day when
Amanda DeGennaro‘s shot just missed hitting the post and
Arianna Shams-Kollar attempt on the rebound was blocked. Despite having the ball in Dowling territory for most of the half, the Skyhawks were unable to add to their lead and both sides went into the break tied at one.
Midway through the second half, Stonehill got their second goal of the day when Sarah Morse sent in a penalty corner to Emily Thornton who ripped a shot past Dowling’s keeper
Ariana Ovadia. The Skyhawks final goal came in the 63
rd minute when Alexandra Dillon tapped in a shot off a scramble in front of the goal to bring the came to it’s final 3-0 score.
Stonehill out shot the Golden Lions 16-2 with a 12-4 penalty corner advantage. DC’s Ovadia finished with 12 saves.
The Golden Lions will travel to face Mercy College Saturday, November 1
st at 1:00 PM.
