SHIRLEY, N.Y.– The Dowling College field hockey team came up short in a 4-2 matchup with Lindenwood University this afternoon at Golden Lions Field. The Golden Lions slide to 2-9 on the season as Lindenwood improves to 5-4.
The Lions got off to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Victoria Buysschaert and Greta Banholzer. Buysschaert took a pass from Banholzer inside the arc for a 1-0 lead in the 13
th minute of play. Banholzer then doubled the lead when she beat the Dowling defense and put her shot past the DC keeper to give Lindenwood a 2-0 advantage going into the half.
Dowling was first to strike in the second half after sophomore
Amanda DeGennaro tipped in a rebound in the 45
th minute. Lindewood answered seven minutes later with a goal from Karlie Quinn pushing their lead back up to two, 3-1. The Golden Lions inched back to within one whith DeGennaro’s second goal of the day. But the Lions’ Linda Oberle’s goal in the 68
th minute put the game out of reach and secured the 4-2 win.
Lindenwood out shot the Golden Lions 25 to 9 with a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners. Dowling’s keeper
Ariana Ovadia finished with nine saves on the day to Lindenwood’s Victoria Gil’s five saves.
The Golden Lions return to action as they travel to Assumption College Sunday, October 12
th. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
