FIELD HOCKEY FALTERS AGAISNT NO. 7 MERCYHURST

Box Score BROOKHAVEN, N.Y.-  The Dowling College field hockey team suffered a 6-0 loss to the No. 7 Lakers of Mercyhurst College this afternoon at Golden Lions Field.  The Golden Lions drop to 0-5 overall as the Lakers improve to 4-3 on the season.

The Lakers got on the board first in the 20th minute of the first half with Emily Koestler fought through a scramble in front of the net to find the lower left corner.  The Golden Lions held off the Lakers for the remainder of the half and headed into the break trailing 1-0.

Mercyhurst was quick in the second half extending their lead just two minutes in.  Kelsey Lovelace put in two quick goals for a 3-0 lead.  Megan Smith followed with a shot into the lower left corner followed by Blair Pembleton’s goal from the top of the circle bringing the game to 5-0.  Samantha Siegferth rounded out the scoring in the 56th minute with a goal from ten yards out to the upper left corner.
Dowling’s Ariana Ovadia finished with 14 saves on the day.

The Golden Lions return to action as they travel to Bentley University Sunday, October 6th at 1:00 PM.
