MANCHESTER, N.H.- Freshman Justine DeLuca recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Dowling College field hockey team to a 6-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University this afternoon at Larkin Field.  The Golden Lions improve to 2-6 on the season as the Penmen drop to 1-3.

After a scoreless 25 minutes to start the match, DeLuca put the Golden Lions on the board when she tipped in a cross from freshman Zoe Norton.  Just minutes late, sophomore Elizabeth Athing extended the DC lead when she corralled her own rebound and put it past SNHU’s keeper Cassandra Nickerson.  DeLuca recorded her second goal of the half in the 31st minute giving knocking in a loose ball in a scramble giving the Golden Lions a 3-0 lead going into the break.

Early in the second half DeLuca wrapped up her hat trick when she connected with Norton again in the 40th minute.  Later in the half, the Golden Lions were awarded a penalty corner taken by Athing found Sarah Shams-Kollar who put Dowling ahead 5-0 with her shot from the top of the circle.  Jillian Barbieri rounded out the scoring when she picked up a loose ball and found the back of the net bringing the game to it’s final 6-0.

The Golden Lions outshot the Penmen 20-14 with a 17-7 penalty corner advantage.  Dowling’s goalkeeper Ariana Ovadia finished the day with nine saves.

The Golden Lions return to action Friday, October 3rd as they travel down south to face Limestone College.  Game time is slated for 6:00 PM.
