Box Score SPRINGFIELD, MASS.- The Dowling College field hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to American International College this afternoon at Abdow Field. The Golden Lions fall to 1-4 on the season as the Yellow Jackets even out at 2-2.
Leading the Yellow Jackets was Jenna Masionis with a pair of goals as Taylor Ruscillo, Amanda Johannes and Emma Heroth all recording a goal apiece.
AIC got the scoring started when Heroth gathered a rebound and sent the ball to Ruscillo who snuck it past DC keeper Olivia Ovadia in the 9
th minute of play. Heroth sent in a goal of her own in the 25
th minute after she received a pass from Liv Magni and sent her shot into the right side of the cage. Minutes later, the Golden Lions had a scoring opportunity with back to back shots on goal by
Elizabeth Athing and
Justine DeLuca, but AIC keeper Ainslee was there to make the saves sending the Yellow Jackets into the break leading 2-0.
AIC jumped on the scoreboard early in the second half with a goal from Masionis to the right side of the cage in the 37
th minute. Johannes and Masionis rounded out the scoring in the 45
th and 59
th minutes bringing the game to its final 5-0.
Dowling was outshot but AIC 34-9 with a 13-7 penalty corner deficit. DC Ovadia finished with 20 saves on the day with AIC’s Penfield totaling 5.
The Golden Lions return to action as they travel to face Adelphi University Wednesday, September 17
th at 7:00 PM.
