Justine DeLuca scored her first collegiate goal today and gave the Golden Lions a 1-0 led in the first half, but Dowling couldn’t hold on as they fell 2-1 to Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Lions scored on the first shot of the game, when DeLuca received the pass across the circle for the goal. Franklin Pierce took advantage after a stroke was called in the 19
th minute as the Ravens tied up the game 1-1. After a back and forth battle the Dowling would head to their locker tied at the end of the first half.
The second half called for a strong offensive start for the Ravens as they took three shots on the first five minutes of action. In the 60
th minute of play the Ravens would capitalize on their second stroke call of the game to take the 2-1 advantage. The Golden Lions threatened to score again in the 61
st minute when back-to-back shots were blocked. Dowling saw one more opportunity to score after a corner in the 70
th minute but the ball couldn’t find the back of the net.
Dowling falls to 0-2 on the season as the Ravens improve to 1-0 on the season.
Ariana Ovadia had 13 saves in an impressive performance in goal as Franklin Pierce outshot Dowling 20-6.
The Golden Lions continue their home stand as they return to action on Tuesday September 9
th at 4 pm.
