UNIONDALE, N.Y.- The Dowling College baseball team split their final double header of the regular season with Molloy College this afternoon at Mitchel Field. Molloy took game one 8-3 before the Golden Lions bounced back to win game two 8-0. Dowling moves to 26-12 on the season 14-9 in East Coast Conference play. The Lions now sit at 22-22 overall, 10-13 ECC.
GAME ONEDowling fell behind early surrendering there runs in the bottom of the first and the bottom of the third. A sacrifice fly by
Chris Appell scored Dan Parisi who led off the inning with a single to center. Dowling scored their second run of the game using Parisi’s second straight single to center that brought home
Vinny Orlando in the top of the fifth. Molloy tacked on two more in the bottom half of the fifth and after three scoreless innings, the Golden Lions pushed one run across in the top of the ninth but it was not enough as the Lions secured the 8-3 win.
Tyler Piccolo led the Golden Lions at the plate with a 3 for 4 performance. Parisi and Orlando both finished with two hits apiece, and RBI and a run scored.
Dominic Danetti was tagged with the loss allowing six runs in three innings before giving way to
Robert Rose who threw the final five innings.
GAME TWOThe Golden Lions stranded runners in both to first and second, but finally broke through with two runs in the top of the third. Two innings later,
Michael Richter led off with a base hit to left and was followed up with a single to center by
Robert Morse. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position and then were brought home on a double to left by
Dylan Piscitelli. Two batters later, Matt Moschovas’s ground out scoring Piscitelli to put the Golden Lions ahead 5-0. Piscitelli knocked in two more runs in the top of the fifth with a triple to left and an RBI single to center by Parisi in the seventh rounding out the scoring for the 8-0 win.
PIscitelli finished 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a run scored.
Dowling starter
Kyle DeMeo improved to 4-1 on the season allowing just three hits while striking out three.
Andrew Sesto tossed a perfect seventh inning striking out two.
The Golden Lions will have a chance for a piece of the regular season title as they close out the regular season hosting Molloy tomorrow, May 3
rd. Game time is slated for 12:00 PM with a presentation honoring this year’s seniors set to begin at 11:30 AM.
