BOX SCORE

Brookhaven, NY-   Sophomore Sean Dougherty recorded a goal in the 50th minute of Dowling's matchup against the University of Massachusetts Lowell to give them a 1-0 lead and eventually the win in their season opener at Golden Lions Field.

In a change of fortune since their double overtime loss to the Riverhawks exactly one year ago to the day, a timely shot from Dougherty off a Gerassimos Magoulas pass would be all Dowling needed to record a victory.

Six new faces were part of the starting line up, but the group seemed like a team that had been together for many years as they went on to outshoot the Riverhawks 8-2 in the first half while holding them to no shots on goal.

Despite no score at the break, Dowling continued the pressure right out of the gate, setting up Dougherty for the score just five minutes into the second half.

UMass Lowell would throw everything at the Golden Lions in the final minutes, but it was too little too late as Dowling cruised to victory to start out their season at 1-0.

Chris Maierle ended with 3 saves in net while allowing the lone goal of the game.  Chris Kucera would see little action, facing no direct shots.

The Golden Lions will face St. Michael's College this Saturday at 7:00 PM for another non-conference matchup.
