Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Dowling College Athlete department has been named the ECC Cares Award recipients for raising the most money per student-athlete for collective causes during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Coming off a year that broke NCAA Division II records for Make-A-Wish funds raised by a single institution, the Golden Lions stepped up once again this year. By selling Make-A-Wish stars and raffles, hosting denim days and bake sales, and collecting gate money the department raised over $16,000, averaging $65 per student-athlete. Their efforts benefited the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Breast Cancer Research, Prostate Cancer Research and Haiti relief efforts, among others.
The Golden Lions were recognized at the East Coast Conference Awards Dinner where they received a plaque and a $500 grant for 2010-2011.
