Oakdale, NY- The Women's Basketball team would record their second straight 20-win season in 2010, going 20-9 with a 14-7 conference mark. 2010 would also mark the second straight year they would reach the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship, ending another successful year for Coach Joe Pellicane and his team.
After reaching the Conference Championship final in 2009 and being named the 2nd most improved team in all of Division II, the Golden Lions would once again push forward for a chance at postseason play.
Dowling would open up the season starting on November 15th with a 95-86 win over Merrimack. Two more wins would come their way before dropping their first home match in over a year to Mercy College. Despite this loss and two more following it, the Golden Lions would go on an 8 game win streak to improve their record to 11-3 at the midway point of the season.
In their final regular season game of the season, Dowling would drop a close match to Molloy College, but would earn a spot in the ECC playoffs with a 19-8 record. A convincing victory over STAC in the quarterfinals would send the Golden Lions to the semifinals against a tough Bridgeport squad. The Purple Knights would edge out the Golden Lions, but there is no taking away from their amazing season as they earned their second 20-win season in a row.
Many individuals on the team had a lot to celebrate as they went on to earn numerous awards and recognitions. Three Golden Lions would be named to All-Conference teams, with
Christie Marrone earning first team honors while
Seja Gamble and
Connie Simmons would each earn a spot on the All-Rookie team. In addition,
Gamble would be named the Conference Rookie of the Year.
Marrone, the ECC leader in three-pointers made and three-point percentage, would also be named to the Daktronics East Region Second Team, the ECAC All-Star Team, and the All-Met Second Team.
The Golden Lions would also be successful off the court as

With many returning players and a wealth of talent on the team, head coach Joe Pellicane looks forward to another successful year on the court and another push to the NCAA playoffs.
