Flushing, NY- The Men's Basketball team would fall to the Knights of Queens College, 67-80, in the first round of the ECC Championship. The Golden Lions end their season with a 10-20 overall record while going 8-14 in the conference.
Earning the 6th and final seed in the ECC playoffs, Dowling would travel to meet a Queens team that would enter the game with a 17-10 mark.
David Seagers would start off the scoring as he would hit a jumper at 19:13 to put two on the board for Dowling. Queens would quickly tie it up and hold the lead until just under 10 minutes remaning as Seagers hit another jay to put the Golden Lions up by one at 16-15. The Knights would take the lead once again at the 8:40 mark, going on a 15-3 run to give them a 13 point advantage with 2 minutes on the clock. Dowling would be able to cut it to 10 just before the break, seeing themselves down 27-37 going into the locker room.
Queens would continue to shoot well in the first 10 minutes of the second, building upon their lead and leading by as many as 18. The Golden Lions would slowly cut away at the lead, pulling to within 7 after a clutch three-point goal from
Seagers at 4 minutes remaining. However, the Queens onslaught would continue, putting the game out of reach for Dowling as the Knights took the 80-67 victory.
In his last game as a Golden Lion,
Seagers would tally 22 points, adding 4 rebounds and a steal while
Sean Smith would record 22 of his own, going 5 for 9 from three-point land. Queens would shoot 51% from the field compared to Dowling's 41%, while the Knights would also be on top in 3-point shooting (58% to 41%).
