Oakdale, NY- Four Golden Lions would score in the double digits to lead Dowling to another ECC win, defeating the Mercy College Mavericks, 74-52, at Dowling Gymnasium this Saturday. Dowling improves to 13-7 on the season while posting a 8-7 conference record.
A tough loss against Molloy College on Wednesday would set the stage for the Golden Lions, putting them in a must-win situation to gain ground in the conference.
A slow start to the game would see Dowling down 11-6 just 5 minutes in, however an 8-0 run by the Golden Lions would give them a 14-11 lead at the 12 minute mark. Four more lead changes would follow, with Dowling coming out on top at the end of the half with a score of 34-31.
Dowling would explode in the opening minutes of the second, scoring 19 to Mercy's 2 to give them a 21 point lead with 11 minutes remaining. The Mavericks would fight back, eventually pulling to within 15, but the Dowling lead proved to be too much as the Golden Lions prevailed with a 74-52 final.
Simona Bartkova would lead both teams with 16 points while adding 8 boards and 2 steals. Also scoring in the double digits for Dowling was
Christie Marrone (14 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists)
Connie Simmons (13 points, 9 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals) and
Nora Bahgat (12 points, 9 rebounds). Also pitching in was
Hannah Krueger with 17 boards.
Ashley Borofsky would record a double-double for the Mavericks, tallying 12 points, 12 boards, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
The Golden Lions will travel to Bridgeport next Wednesday for another do or die conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 5:00 PM.
