BOX SCORE
Oakdale, NY- The Women's Basketball team would suffer a close 60-56 loss to conference foe, Molloy, this Wednesday despite a game leading 17 points from
Christie Marrone. Dowling drops to 13-7 on the season with a 7-7 conference mark.
Coming off two wins versus conference opponents in the past week, the Golden Lions looked for a win tonight that would propel them in the ECC standings with Molloy one spot in front of them at third place.
A low scoring first half would see Dowling with a 6-3 lead at the 11 minute mark after a lull in scoring in the previous 4 minutes. A Jenna McLaughlin three-pointer at the 3:50 mark would give Molloy the lead. The Lions would be able to hold onto it heading into the break with a 19-18 advantage.
Shooting 45% from the field in the second half would hurt the Golden Lions, despite going 14-15 from the foul line, as Molloy would hold a small lead until the two minute mark. A foul shot by
Simona Bartkova would give Dowling the 1 point advantage, but the Lions of Molloy would quickly get it back and hang on to take the 60-56 victory.
Turnovers seemed to be the name of the game as Dowling committed 22 to Molloy's 12 while the Lions had slightly better shooting from 3-point range with 35% to Dowling's 31%.
Marrone would add 3 rebounds and 2 assists to her 17 points while
Connie Simmons would contribute 10 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists in the effort. Lisa Claxton would lead Molloy with 12 points on the night.
